KOEM, Converged Drone...Utilization in disaster and disaster situations such as marine pollution control

The Korea Marine Environment Corporation (KOEM, CEO Park Seung-gee) announced on the 24th that it has developed a fusion drone exclusively for marine pollution accidents and deployed it to Incheon and Yeosu on a trial basis.

The convergence drone has four essential functions for responding to marine pollution control, including nighttime exploration, distribution of oil-preventing drugs, information broadcasting, and measurement of concentrations of air-toxic substances (HNS, hazardous chemicals).

KOEM has been using drones for preventive patrol activities since 2017 and through this convergence drones, it has become possible to respond more actively to marine disasters and accidents such as marine pollution accidents.

In particular, the infrared camera can be used to search for leaked oil and other chemicals at night, and can be sprayed precisely where necessary to prevent secondary contamination.

It is also expected that the concentration of air pollution can be measured in the event of leakage of toxic substances such as HNS (hazardous harmful chemicals), which will greatly expand the safety, spatial and temporal range of workers.

KOEM plans to test-run the convergence drones at Incheon and Yeosu headquarters this year and gradually expand and distribute them to all branches in the future.

"Special drones, which have supplemented the limitations of existing drones, will change the paradigm of response to maritime accidents," said Park Seung-gee, CEO of KOEM. "We will make the best effort to create a clean and safe marine environment by utilizing new technologies related to the fourth industrial revolution."
