Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries supports the Local Carbon Neutral Ocean New Deal project
On September 17, Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation (KOEM, CEO Han Ki-jun) announced that it created Ocean New Deal Project Support Group, an organization that supports the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ (Minister Mun Seong-hyeok) Local Carbon Neutral Ocean New Deal Project (“Ocean New Deal Project”).
Ocean New Deal Project aims to develop carbon neutral models for various marine and coastal communities, with a view to carbon neutrality in the marine and fisheries industry by 2050. The project seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, convert to renewable energy, and enhance marine carbon absorption technologies.
The Corporation plans to staff the Group with experts with experience and skills in marine environment, who will provide green restoration consulting for the marine environment, thereby enhancing the effect of the policy.
Park Han-sik, the Director of the Group, said that the organization collaborate with the central and local governments to effectuate local marine and coastal carbonneutral projects that will begin next year.
