Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation held the 2021 Marine Biological Contents Contest Awards Ceremony

The Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation (KOEM, Chairman Han Ki Joon) announced that it has held the '2021 Marine Biological Contents Contest' hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (Minister Moon Sung Hyuk) and organized by KOEM, at the Dajeong-dong Complex Community Center on November 29.

 

 

The marine life contents contest is held every year to raise public interest in the conservation of marine ecosystems and marine life. This year, it was held as painting and webtoon events under the themes of 'Marine Protection Life in Need of Interest and Protection' and 'How to Protect Marine Life'.

 

 

From May to September, a total of 2,076 works, including 1,871 paintings and 205 webtoons, were received. There were 46 paintings and 21 webtoons selected as winners through the two-time evaluations.

 

 

Choi Sae Yeon, the winner of the Marine Love Award in the painting section, drew marine waste in the form of a seabird and the seabird is left alone in the student's work, highlighting the painter’s imagination and description.

 

 

Park Kyu Do, who won the Marine Love Award in the webtoon section, also received high cinematic quality score for the content directing, color feeling completeness, and reversal story, in the conveying subject suitability and workmanship in the student's work 'Please Protect Kyubooki!'

 

 

The awards worth 14 million won in total, and include the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Award, the Chairman of the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation Award, and the Korea Postal Service Promotion Agency Award. The two winners of the best award, the 'Marine Love Award', were presented with the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Award and one million won as prize money.

 

In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the awards ceremony was limited in the scope of attendance, by maintaining the distance between seats, and by conducting the general evaluation of the screening through video.

 

 

In November, the award-winning exhibition (www.meis.go.kr) and mentoring programs hosted by webtoon writer, Kim In Ho, will also be held.

 

 

Kim Sung Soo, Director of the Marine Environment Research Institute, said, "We were able to get a glimpse of our interest and concerns about the problems faced by the sea and marine life in the works submitted at the contest." Furthermore, he added, "we will continue to expand opportunities for participation so that we can protect our sea with the people throughout the nation."
